I just read this article about how much easier video games are. I've never played Mega Man. But what are your thoughts??

Are video games too easy?
Were earlier games harder?

Are video games too easy?
I do what I do.
Yes. Yes, they definitely are. With a few exceptions, most of which are fan-made games or original works. Also Super Mario World hacks.

Go pick up the Mega Man Anniversary Collection or something.GlennAdams wrote: I've never played Mega Man.
Anyway, I have not yet read the article, but they are definitely easier overall.
Overall, they go more for a longer game I think, but easier. I can breeze through the old Mario and Mega Man games on the NES in a couple of hours or so, but the difficulty is harder for people unfamiliar with the games. I figure that in the "old days" they could only make games so long with the tools they had at the time, so the focus was more on difficulty for stretching out the length of the game. That's my guess, anyway.
I dunno, probably because its what I grew up on, but I love the simplicity of the NES era (and some Super Nintendo), Megaman, Mario, Bionic Commando, Metroid, Contra, etc... way over the current gen stuff. Although Bionic Commando Rearmed is pretty cool.
I haven't played many Super Nintendo hacks, but there are some awesome and inspired Super Mario related and Mega Man ones for the NES. You have to wade through a lot of really awful ones, though...Sonuna wrote:Yes. Yes, they definitely are. With a few exceptions, most of which are fan-made games or original works.
