Well, seeing as how Richmond, Virginia was the capital of the Confederacy, I'd say it sure does .
I've lived most of my life in the south, and my family has deep southern ties. We used to own a plantation down there way back when, and all of my relatives (save for the ones who were immigrants from Italy three generations back) fought on the side of the south .
To be honest, I still have absolutely no clue why people stick to arbitrary psuedo-historical dividing points like this.
Regardless, was Minnesota even a state at the time of the Civil War? I mean, they had the Louisiana Purchase, but I'm not even sure my town is part of the land they obtained in it.
