Fairness....

You know what you greatest part of a Free Enterprise system is?

The opportunity/ability to fail.

Yes, being able to fail! Without failure, most of us would never learn from our mistakes (and some of us still don't); from failure we learn that we ourselves are not perfect and *hopefully* to try again...

In a world where nobody can be richer than anyone else because "that's just not fair," no one can better themselves through success or even failure.

The principle applies to this situation, "he who does not work, does not eat." (those who do work, do eat: the worker is worthy of their wages, etc).

Everyone on the ToO started out at the same economic place: broke. They were "born equal," so to speak. However, not everyone chose to use the same methods that were available to all in order to amass wealth.

The rich are rich because they've applied themselves and reaped the reward. They sowed the knowledge or methods (be it stocks or lots of posting, coming up with/winning prizes, shops, etc) and reaped the reward: money.

Not everyone chose to do the most "economically sound" (for lack of a better term) way of amassing wealth and so those people didn't make money. They didn't work at it, so they didn't get the reward. (cause to effect relationship)

If they had merely asked, I am sure there are some who would have told them (or even have told them) of ways to make money. The most obvious one is posting, so that's what most people do. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's just the bottom level of many.

And were is Corey?! :inlove:

Corey, a.k.a. Shadowpaw, is the guy who started the ToO and who continues to pay for the site and trouble-shoots when necessary. :) I'm not sure what's up with the smiley, though, since I thought that I was in love with Shadowpaw and COT was in love with me, but whatever. ;) It's all in good fun!

This is what I assumed would happen. It's too intense to make a decision off of, but gives an idea. We will see what will happen about the Stock Market soon, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Wow, that was closer than I thought it'd be... but it kinda reflects my overall thoughts. I'd be content with either decision made. :)

Aw, I should've used the cheat way to get more votes for "yes"

But that would've been dishonest. Besides, the admin team could still decide to bring it back. O:)

It seems like there's a 1% or 2% margin of error (1% is missing from the total talley). In that case, the "yes" votes could just as easily have won.

This was an opinion poll, not the sole decision maker. Now Angel and Ryan have a better idea of how you, the citizens, feel about the stock market, and some great conversations have been had as well, which is awesome. :D

I might be wrong, but it looked to me like a bunch of the members who have been on a lot longer voted no... I think a bunch of other noobs like me voted yes becuase we have not previousely seen the stock market, and for us it would be a new and exiting thing.

I personnaly voted no, even though I haven't seen the stock market. It would probably just bring out the worst in people. Do we remeber when EK reset the money? Do we remeber how some people reacted to that? We could have major splits over the money on this board, and bringing back the stock market could just cause even more splits in the near future. So, I'm all for it not to return.

This is all very Lord of the Flies. Give a bunch of teenagers and preteens a virtual city and see what they do with it. \:D/

But, if a stable economy is not high on the list for the majority of members, and they just want something else added to the board, something that is possibly fun....then, I'm okay with the stock market. I just don't think it's economically smart. O:)
I think a stable economy is a nice thing in real life..but this isn't real life. And the stock market was fun. I think the socialist ideas around here are kind of scary.
ek wrote:Of course it's not a big deal. If it was my choice I would delete the money system in it's entirety.

And no, it doesn't emulate real life...wheres the so-called middle class in all this? Nowhere to be found.

It matters because this aspect of the ToO is a game yes it's fake but that's why it's a game and if the rules of the game are unbalanced or unfair...the game will cease to be fun for everyone.
I guess I'm confused by that first statement? There are people who have lots of money, people who don't have lots of money, and there are people in between. That's the middle class...

And a game where you take out all the rules and make everyone exactly the same no matter what they DO is zero fun. I don't care if the stock market comes back or jobs or whatever happen. But like someone above me said, the draw of this board is that it's like a city.

You get a job, you get money for posting, you can spend money on things like the stock market, degrees to get better jobs, and other items. That's the fun of this board.

All of the concerns about money are probably because we don't have anything to DO with it. Meaning we need more items and something fun to play with it with, like a stock market. haha :p

When I see posts that sound like "tax the rich!" and about taxes and things in general, I just roll my eyes because it sounds so much like the political climate right now. Anyway. Bummer I was too late to post. Then it would have been like 29 votes to 28.
