Is Radio Drama only something of the past now?
Have you ever told your friends that you liked this radio drama called "Adventures in Odyssey" and they react funny. "Radio drama? Is there such a thing any more?"
A good friend of mine laughed when I told her about AIO, she said "Oh...you're so quaint, Frank's-real-name."

Yeah, people aren't really aware of it as being part of any form of entertainment and media. If I'm like on MSN and someone is asking me what I'm doing I'm all-like: (BC=me, F=Friend)

F=''Whatcha doing?''
BC=''Just...you know, catching up on my show.''
F=''Which one?''
BC=''You don't know it...''
F=''What channel is it on?''
BC=''It's on the internet...''
F=''Oh, so it's pirated stuff, right?''
BC=''Um, sure man, if you sayz so.''
F=''No man, seriously though...''
BC=''Naw, it's a Drama...you don't like those.''
F=''Sure I do. I cry at them all the time.''
BC=''Man, you got problems. But, hey, it's you know, a radio drama.''
F=''What's dat?''
BC=''Yo moma!''
F=''Wha--?''
BC=''No...it's like, you know...a drama...but you listen to it.''
F=''No picture?''
BC=''Naw, man, sorry.''
F=''Who makes you do that?''
BC=''Well, you know...euh...me?''

Yeah, so that's pretty much how that conversation goes. You really have to have the imagination and patience for Radio. People just don't have imaginations anymore--and that's what I think the problem with society is these days (among other things). Now that Television is at it's highest, getting someone to understand the magic of Radio is hard, especially when it comes to getting them into it.
So has Radio Drama left with the dinosaurs? Well, in popularity...sure. But, hey, theirs always signs of a Lock Ness out there, right?
Radio Dramas will live on. As long as Nerds do.
Haha, only kidding! The stuff rocks!

All my friends think I'm wierd for listening to radio drama. I'll say something to the effect of "No, I can't come over, there's a new episode tonight."
Friend: "Episode of what?"
Me: "something"
Friend: "what?"
Me: "my radio show?"
Confuzzled Friend: "Wha...?"
Me: "It's a radio drama."
Friend: "Whatever."
Yeah, that's pretty much how it is. Sad really. We have gone underground.

Because they're dumb?Frank wrote:Why don't people like radio drama anymore?
I think that people like to see what's happening, not just hear about it. We want all the details! The listener has to be more involved with a radio drama or a book than with a movie, because not as much information is presented to you. You have to imagine the characters and the action, instead of it being fully shown to you. I think that's why radio dramas can be so magical - because part of it is the actual program, but part of it is the listener. That can happen in books too, but I think that it happens in movies and TV shows to a lesser degree.

Radio; well, you have to think a bit...(it hurts...)

I voted no because I love AIO and RT productions. A radio station nearby used to air old radio shows every evening but they stopped doing it. I didn't like all of them but some of them were a lot of fun.
