Apples to Apples!

It's the Fall Festival which means it's time for ToO Apples to Apples! \:D/
This is a long time tradition for us this time of year, and one of my favorite recurring forum events!

Here's how it works:
  • Every player will be sent a pm with their starting hand of red cards.
  • I will appoint a judge for the first round and post a green card in this thread.
  • Each player should choose one red card from their hand that they think is best described by the word on the posted green card and pm me their choice.
  • When enough players have sent me a red card I will post all the submissions in this thread.
  • The judge of the round picks the red card they think is best described by the word on the green card and posts their decision in this thread, preferably with a brief explanation of why they picked that one.
  • The player who submitted the chosen red card gets a point and the next round begins with a new judge and a new green card.

There isn't a prize for winning, or a score limit we're playing to, it's just for fun and we'll go as long as the Fall Festival does as long as people want to keep playing! New players are welcome to join in after the game starts, just post that you want to play and I'll send you your cards!
Note that to keep things moving I will not always wait until everyone has sent in a card each round to begin the judging phase. If you miss a round that's okay, just wait for the next one. Ideally we are aiming at doing a round a day, so please keep your eye on the thread and your pms for new activity so the game doesn't stall! :)

If you want to play sign up in this thread now and the game will start soon!

Me too!
...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Sorry for the delay in starting, I was hoping at least one more person would join.
We'll begin soon either way!

The starting hands have been sent out; let's play! \:D/
New players can still join in, just post that you need cards!

Note that I will also be playing. Yes when it's my turn to judge I will know who played what, but I promise to not let it affect which card I choose. And in some versions of the game the judge does know who played each word, so it's not a big deal.

Round 1:

The judge is: Catspaw

The green card is: Neat (tidy, orderly, cool)

Players, PM me the red card from your hand you think this best describes!

-- November 16th, 2022, 1:51 pm --

The submissions are:
Meryl Streep
Alfred Hitchcock
Pulling Weeds
Going to Church

Catspaw, pick the one you think is best described by Neat.

Interesting word choices! If anyone wants to share their word selection process afterwards, I'm curious.

I pick...pulling weeds! I'm going with the "tidy" part of the definition.

That was mine! \:D/ And that was my thinking, it makes the yard or garden neat meaning clean.

Scores:
bookworm - 1

Round 2:

The judge is: Petrichor

The green card is: Timeless (classic, ageless, well-established)

Players, PM me the red card from your hand you think this best describes!

I submitted Meryl Streep, but only because I didn't have any good options. There wasn't really a deeper meaning behind it, except perhaps that she usually seems well-coiffed.

That makes sense. I totally understand picking something that doesn't fit really well but just not having better options. That happened to me a bunch the last time we played.

I picked Going to Church just because usually you get yourself a little bit more tidy and cleaned up from what you normally wear around the house.

I am torn between Oxygen and Frank Sinatra, but ultimately, I have to pick Frank Sinatra. He fits all aspects of the definition best.

The winner of the round is Laura!

Scores:
bookworm - 1
Laura - 1

Oxygen was mine, I thought about trying to match the more metaphorical meaning but couldn't get past thinking 'an element is something that just is, so you can't be more timeless than that.' I didn't have any great matches in hand for other interpretations anyway, so decided literal was the way to go.

Round 3:

The judge is: bookworm

The green card is: Weird (abnormal, peculiar, odd)

Players, PM me the red card from your hand you think this best describes!

Oh, that makes sense. I was thinking of it more as, "Wow, church is super neat-o!"

My timeless one was bubble gum, just with the idea that it seems like a classic kind of thing.

The submissions are:
First Man On The Moon
Black Holes
Televangelists
Nicholas Cage

Every one of those is a really good play! For Weird my choice is Black Holes, those are weird on multiple levels so while all these are definitely weird in a way, I reasoned they're the most weird.

The winner of the round is Laura!

Scores:
Laura - 2
bookworm - 1

Round 4:

The judge is: Laura

The green card is: Shocking (frightening, electrifying, startling)

Players, PM me the red card from your hand you think this best describes!
