2014 Winter Olympics

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Yay! \:D/ I love the winter Olympics. Hopefully this will be as great as the Vancouver Olympics...though part of the fun was having it so close to home! It's hard to believe that it's been four years already. It doesn't feel like it's been that long.

I said during the last Games that I like the Winter better, but I don’t think that’s accurate anymore. The Summer Games were more enjoyable than I previously remembered last time, I loved watching pretty much all the events, especially volleyball, gymnastics, and water polo. I have many I like in the Winter Games too. Speed skating is my favorite, but I also really like the skiing and snowboarding. So I think as far as the actual Games go, I in fact like both equally. The favorite bit is just that the Winter Olympics get a tiny edge viewing wise because I like the stuff in the snow.

The Winter Olympics have always been my favorite, largely because I feel like the opening cerimonies are more creative, simply because they're generally indoors. You can't rely soley on insane fireworks (Bejing, anyone?), or the Queen diving in from a helicopter; you have to have more choreography, and creative displays of light,, as opposed to just blowing up the sky, or having some major "shock factor."
I mean, the fireworks, and the Queen are the only things I remember from the Bejing and London cerimonies, but I remember many more vivid detales of the Vancouver one.
Now, I'm not saying that the others weren't good, but I just feel like the Winter Games' cerimony provides a better oprotunity to showcase creativity, over shock value.

I do prefer watching the Winter Games over the Summer Games.

At my house, we are always sure to watch the opening ceremony, and the skating events, and then whatever else we feel like watching. :P

My favourite event to watch is the luge or skeleton.
My friend was doing time trials to see if she could qualify for the Canadian speed skating team, but unfortunately she didn't make it. :(
I'm excited! I just don't know how much I'll actually end up watching.

I actually prefer the Winter Games usually, though summer is good too. Gymnastics, speed skating, the slaloms, ski jumping... So many awesome events.

I also really want to see curling, though, I have never gotten a chance to see it.

Who else is looking forward to the World Cup though?

Do they have Gymnastics in the Winter Games? I usually think of the Summer Olympics when I think of Gymnastics.

They do not. They have figure skating, which is close. I am very excited for the Olympic Games. I prefer the summer but the winter are only a little bit behind.

Hey, I actually quite like them. I would definitely wear something like this on a daily basis (in the Winter, at least).

Those aren’t the athlete uniforms, just the outfits for the opening ceremony I thought?

I think they’re fine. I’m not crazy about them, but I definitely don’t think there’s anything bad about them. :shrugs:

Has anyone been following Russia's massively overbudget construction efforts? I'm finding it very entertaining. \:D/

No, but I do find the whole reaction about the "Gay Community" rather interesting...
