W
hy did Mercy agree to play Anastasia for movie night? It was too much like her life only Mercy was sure she was not a princess. Mercy’s first memory was waking up in a rebel base with nurses amazed she was alive.
Casey helped her adapt to fighting in the time war. He answered all questions she had except who she with anything more than her name. Might be good because the only thing she did not have to relearn was killing.
Her assignment here was very non-violent: wait for Amanda to say a key phrase and give her a VHS and return to base.
The good thing about Anastasia was the ending. The battle was over and a princess chose a normal life and a normal man.
“It’s nice to see a princess movie where the girl isn’t pressured into being something she didn’t want to be to get the man she loved,” Dino commented along the same lines that Mercy was thinking.
“I feel bad for Dimitri,” Amanda said. “The rest of his life, he will know that she can’t be royalty because of him.”
Mercy had never thought of Dimitri’s feelings. “Doesn’t that just show him how much he is loved?”
“True,” Amanda admitted. “But I can’t imagine holding back a man I loved.”
“If being happy is all that matters then I think Anastasia and Dimitri have a great deal,” Dino said with a smile. “I can’t imagine more for me and Bear.”
“I know a little too much about human nature,” Amanda said sadly. “Happiness doesn’t last.”
“Then what would you get married for?” Mercy asked. She was not a very emotional person and did not know if she could ever feel that way about anyone.
An oddly happy grin accompanied by a far off look crossed her face. “I would get married when I knew God had showed me a man that He wants me with to make me more effective for Him.”
Most of the rebels Mercy knew were religious and made similar statements, even Casey.
“To each their own,” Dino said. “And Bear is my own and my happiness.”
Mercy was hoping one day to find happiness.

Private Romeo, a film which uses an all male cast and the original dialogue of the play. It was released before the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", and features Romeo as a cadet desperate to get into West Point and Juliet as the new boy to the military academy they all attend.
