I can't select the goomba icon for every post I make.

I'm on Greyscale and can select the Goomba icon... I don't understand. 
Maybe you're in a forum that for some reason has topic icons turned off? I know how to fix that.

It's actually my new favorite, that's why I was so sad the goomba was gone, but now all is well, I think.
Greyscale is my favourite and I have almost never used any other style since the upgrade, so if the choice is between banning Top for life and keeping J-man happy, I have to go with J-man.
