GET DA GAINZ

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Weightlifting

With quarantine, I have had a lot more time on my hands. The guys in the house I live in decided to invest in a weight set for us to use during this time and later on.

Since I have had a lot more time I have been working out regularly. I didn't like going to the gym before because I was really self conscious. I never worked out in high school so I was embarrassed that I didn't know what to do in the gym. One of the guys I live with has been incredibly helpful in both keeping me accountable to it and showing me what to do. It has been 4 weeks and I am feeling really good! The first couple weeks were difficult trying to get the hang of it.

Now, I really enjoy doing it! I look forward to doing it when I get the chance. I have learned to love the burn after a good workout. I also just love being able to lift super heavy things. Today, I had a couple personal records. I squatted 275lbs and I deadlifted 375. Last week, I deadlifted 255 at the most so it was quite the improvement! It felt awesome. We started at 275 and then just kept going up from there. We were just doing single reps after 305. My friend quit at 325 and I still felt good so I kept on pushing and made it all the way there. It really crossed a mental barrier I had had before. It felt awesome to achieve that level! Only going up from here.

TL;DR:
Started weight lifting in quarantine, deadlifted 375 this morning.

Does anyone here like to lift? If so, what are your favorite lifts? Any cool personal records you have achieved?

Whoa, that is crazy! :thud: I personally consider lifting a 20 kg bag of softener salt enough of a workout, so that sounds pretty impressive to me. Needless to say, weightlifting will never be a hobby of mine. ;)

Yeah, good job Jehoshaphat on that PR, that's a huge jump!

I enjoy hitting the gym! I do a 5 day a week plan, generally push/pull, legs, push, pull/legs, push, and occasionally a 6th day with legs/pull.

I definitely enjoy squats and I'm starting to get into olympic lifts.

My favorite PRs are probably squat and deadlift. 445 lb and 495 lb (finally got the 5 plates) \:D/ I think a PR I really want to go for next is probably a 225 clean. My current PR is 185. :anxious:

I don't lift. But I'm so happy to hear you've found enjoyment in working out, Jehoshaphat! That's super cool! And very impressive.

I'm not really in to deadlifting. I like smaller weights that I can do a lot of reps with.

I lift a cat daily, does that count? :( I've just never been a muscle machine. I think 10 lbs is about my limit. Several years ago I broke my left elbow and never was able to get therapy on it. So I lost lots of strength in that arm. Can't even hold a light fixture cover with it.

I don't lift weights. Just here to say that the tl;dr was so thoughtful. Thank you. I appreciate you.
