Help and FAQ

What is Odyssey Chat?

Odyssey Chat is an IRC network for people to join and converse about various topics, especially Focus on the Family's long-running radio drama, Adventures in Odyssey. Main conversation and Odyssey-related talk take place in the #aio channel. Other channels are allowed to be created and encouraged.

Anyone is allowed to join! Please respect the rules, the ops (operators), and everyone who's chatting.

Is Odyssey Chat associated with Focus on the Family?

No. Odyssey Chat is a fan-made project that has no affiliation with or endorsement by Focus on the Family. We are all fans of Adventures in Odyssey and want to have a safe place to connect in real-time.

Is Odyssey Chat monitored/moderated?

Yes and no. We have several ops to keep an eye on things and ensure the rules are followed. However, there aren't ops online all of the time. We do our best to foster an inclusive and friendly community where everyone can participate safely. We make no guarantees though and any minors should discuss internet usage with their parents or guardians. As always, you shouldn't share personal information with others and it's best to use a pseudonym instead of your real name.

Who are operators?

Operators, also known as "Ops," are respected chat residents who moderate the chatroom. They are there to answer questions, make sure everyone is respecting the rules, and keep the chatroom a fun and friendly place to hangout!

What IRC client should I use?

There are many clients to choose from, including desktop apps, mobile apps, web apps, and more. We recommend IRCCloud; it's a free cross-platform solution that lets you switch seamlessly between devices and take Odyssey Chat on the go. While it does have a paid version, you can use it for free. Just sign up for an account with their service, then connect to Odyssey Chat by adding a new network with the connection details above.
