Re: The Lone Ranger
I saw it in the Czech Republic in a '4DX' theater. The seats moved around and there was air blowing and stuff. It was funny.
I thought the movie was ok.

Me and a friend just went to a pretty epic concert. It was so intense. A little mosh pit started up and my friend pushed me in.

Re: Man of Steel (2013's Superman)
I have had a similar indifference towards this type of movie in the past, but my indifference has grown with every new mediocre, generic superhero movie, and is now practically a hate. TRY SOMETHING THE SLIGHTEST BIT CREATIVE.

Re: What have you bought lately?
I bought a book called The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers. Then I read it. It was really good.
I also bought some music on iTunes, including the most recent albums by the Local Natives and Grizzly Bear. Both fantastic.

I really really hope this is good. Because there's like one movie a year that I get excited about and this is it.

Re: The Hobbit: That Christopher Tolkien Did Not Like
Has anyone here watched "The Desolation of Smaug" trailer yet? ;) I thought of posting it here with some snarky comment like "lol this is gonna suck", but then thought better of it. :P Well, it did...so you wouldn't have been inaccurate or anything like that :p I think he was re...

Even though I don't read nearly as much as I should, I love this thread. We need more rics in the world, defending cultural and artistic integrity to the bitter end. \:D/ Indeed we do, although I certainly wouldn't put forth myself as the ideal. :p Ugh, Depression Era fiction is depressing. That mu...

Re: Iron Man 3
I was almost inspired to write an essay about it being a relevant critique of corporate power in America and an exposition of terrorism, do it It was pretty good. The villain was underdeveloped and pretty darn cliche in general (then again, this is a superhero movie) but obviously Tony was the focu...

Re: What Not to Read
Linguistically, for something to truly be an allegory every part of it must directly relate to a part of whatever it is an allegory for. I wasn't aware this was the definition for an allegory...well, whatever. Back on topic, somewhat: I'm currently reading The Giver, and it's reminding me of why I ...

Re: What Not to Read
If the writer didn't intend for it to be an allegory, it's not an allegory. Just because the events in LotR are comparable to real events--and I have no idea if they are because I couldn't get past The Two Towers --does not mean that LotR is an allegory. "Allegory: A story, poem, or picture th...

Oblivion The music was quite good though, I thought. The retro drums made me smile. \:D/ M38's score for Oblivion was absolutely fantastic \:D/ Surprisingly so, actually. I hope that they are given a little bit more recognition in the film score industry due to their work on Oblivion's score. Eh, I...

Oblivion
It was ok. It was basically Moon with more gadgets and people, and I guessed the 'plot twist' right away, but it was somewhat entertaining. The music was quite good though, I thought. The retro drums made me smile.
