Re: So now that Obama's won..
I'm still thinking that, despite the good intentions that may or may not have been behind it, this thing is going to most negatively affect low to middle-income folks: Well, what we needed was a single-payer system, but this is what got passed through. I'm hoping this is the beginning of more chang...

Re: So now that Obama's won..
Basically, if you can afford healthcare but choose not to get it, you'll have an extra tax obligation starting on the taxes due April 2015. Again, you have to be able to afford the insurance, I believe at a rate of less than 10% of your income. Haha, so kind of like forced tithing. ;) I'm still thi...

Re: So now that Obama's won..
I don't want gov. handouts. I just want an opportunity to pay my own way. That's great from an idealistic standpoint, and very laudable if you can pay (I don't believe people who can pay for X should recieve subsidies) but the fact is that this country is full of people who simply can't afford the ...

I don't know if it was the narration style, but this read like one of Tom Clancy's better novels.
I give it a 5 out of 5, because it kept me glued to my seat and guessing right til the end. Definitely a page-turner.

Re: What is the last movie you saw?
I went to see a Hindi film called Taalash "The Search" over the weekend. It was a little more of a gritty crime drama than a typical Bollywood movie, (there were still a couple of songs of course) but I liked it.

Well, I figured since you don't believe in Christ you wouldn't really like saying " Christ mas" nor would you celebrate it...in the traditional Jesus' birth celebration, and not the Santa Claus bull. Well, Santa Claus is basically a character based off of St. Nicholas who was a very real ...

We also believe that the Church consists of several parts. Like John Chrystostom said above, we believe that, with very few exceptions, no one departs this earth free of sin, so we call those faithful who are now deceased the "Church penitent" or those who have sins that prevent them from ...

Thanks, Marvin.
Yep, that's the right link! With the caveat that the elephant photo was taking in the late 1980's.

Re: What is the last movie you saw?
Just saw Life of Pi, which I was looking forward to, having read the book recently. Really good movie. The main character reminded me a lot of the character Ram Mohammad Thomas, from Vikas Swarup's novel "Q&A," where he has kind of an identity crisis because of having 3 religions repre...

I always thought calling something gay was another way of denoting it as being frivolous and over-complicated like huge Broadway production or whatever.

Re: Revolution
I've seen 2 episodes so far. I like the Lost feel to it and, to be fair, Lost didn't really pick up much in the first season either. It took until at least Season 2 until the characters really seemed interesting and relatable. No clue if this will happen with Revolution, but it would be great if it ...

Re: Ask an alcohol-drinking, girl-kissing, pot-smoking Atheist!
Our system of politics contributes itself to a two party system. Here's the whole idea of the third party in the United States. Say we have a third party that comes along and gathers up a lot of votes in the Presidential election. The problem is that it's taking away votes from the party that the t...
