Since my initial response was in the vein of humor, I should also clarify with the following points. 1. If some enterprising individuals think that there's a niche market for the taking, they should go for it. Sometimes start-ups succeed against even the most dominant firms. But usually they don't; ...

Why do they need to make a 'Christian' version of everything? :-s It slightly annoys me. Because we're supposed to glorify God in all we do. And we glorify God by utilizing a poorly designed service with very limited selection that offers no meaningful competition to services already available? Per...

If you frame it correctly, this information can be very positive. If you're sad, take heart: you're probably intelligent, which ought to make you happy. And if you're happy, hey, you're happy, so what do you care if you're smart or not? It's win-win!

She knows a lot about domestic policy? I can't think of a single policy area she's competent in other than energy, and she's not even very good at communicating that! What makes you think she knows a lot about domestic policy?

My only experience with mock trials has been in the realm of constitutional law, so, thankfully, no mock witnesses were involved.

Hope: you may have debated something related to the Shakespearean play, but I doubt your class held a mock trial on it, especially given your description of the event.

I was not impressed with Palin's performance, though I didn't really expect to be. Perhaps the overabundance of folksy charm played well in the Rust Belt (though I'm not convinced), but it did nothing to reassure me of her competence to hold the office she seeks. Too often, she substituted folksy ap...

It is by far the most reliable source in the entire world. Really? I should trust it over, say, academic journals? University press books? Studies conducted by leading researchers or sponsored by highly reputable organizations? Are you sure? How could it not be, it has 6.7 billion editers. One doub...

I shall use this forum to relay an observation of no significance or value, and which could, perhaps, be contradicted: fantasy leagues are to sports what speculation markets are to commodities, at least where the owners and commissioners are concerned. They make the sport a constant consideration, b...

Having the Vikings for a team would sour a person on football, but now that they're getting some young blood in there, like Gus Frerotte, things are bound to improve!

(And if not, perhaps Brad Childress can coax Vinny Testeverde back into the league.)

Which publications blacklist writers who write the truth? It's true, of course, that Mother Jones isn't likely to publish many glowing accounts of the Iraq War, but then, neither is The Weekly Standard likely to publish an essay by Steven Walt. (I'm not saying that either of these viewpoints would n...

The fact that the only time I've been to fast food places in the past six months has been on road trips with friends probably belies an idea that I couldn't "live without" them. I'm with Sherlock on this one: who needs the expense? But then, not fully with her: my freezer is stocked with c...

I do not find television to be a particularly effective medium for serious discourse or inquiry, and thus generally stick to print media. Perhaps because even if you don't think it's a hall of smoke and mirrors, as I do, it's simply not very impressive? It's not much of a museum, really; a lot of exhibits, displays, and video screens. What it lacks is what you generally find in museums -- you know, rare or interesting objects, as oppo...
