Re: 2019 Spelling Bee

I agree with your perception of the situation, bookworm. I felt the same way when I saw the news. I understand the reasoning, but it really seems like the competition should be capable of handling really good competitors. If the contestants seem prepared to go on endlessly, the proctors should be re...

Re: Black Mirror

it's the kind of show with episodes that packed such a visceral punch and really made you stop, think, and reflect. they've had incredibly nihilistic, bleak episodes (like the Chrismtas special with the two guys in the house) or incredibly poignant episodes like San Junipero. they're deeply moving,...

Re: peanut butter cheeseburger

I have to try this the next time I have a burger. I can't believe it's never crossed my mind to do so. Peanut butter goes well with just about anything! People already give me a really hard time because I love peanut butter & mayonnaise sandwiches, so why not give them a new thing to complain ab...

Re: What books are you reading?

Mathematical Mindsets - Jo Boaler It's for a college class, but I'm really enjoying it so far. It's about getting rid of the assumption that some brains are built for math and others aren't, instead adopting a growth mindset when teaching math to children that will empower them to learn much more th...

Black Mirror

I'm surprised to find that no one has ever made a thread about this iconic show that has made its way into pop culture over the last several years. I discovered it over Christmas break in 2017, watched the first three seasons, and then excitedly binged Season 4 when it came out in early January 2018...

Re: What books are you reading?

I'm reading a classic Old Testament textual criticism work from the 80's called "Who Wrote the Bible?" by Richard Elliott Friedman, and I'm finding it extremely riveting. Nothing like discovering the true story that the real scholars have known for hundreds of years but which has been hidd...

Re: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

I had no idea this was happening until I saw the trailer either. I liked the first one well enough, but I think I only saw it once. The trailer doesn't really try to remind me why a sequel needed to be made. Lol

Re: War Room

It's actually probably not out of theaters where you are. It's been surprisingly resilient over the last few weeks. It's going to pass God's Not Dead for overall gross soon, which I don't think anyone expected.

Re: War Room

I liked it enough that I've already seen it twice. And my parents haven't even seen it yet. xD Oh, the freedom of being a young adult. I understand why others may not like it, but I really loved it. More so than any of the previous ones, probably. And, yes, the humor is spot on. There are a couple o...

Re: Ant Man

Nah, it's really just a neat cameo in Ant-man during the actual film and a little teaser at the end but I don't think its anything that important to overall storyarcs. I think there's a subtle explanation you can glean from the movie as to how Hydra initially infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. They don't mak...

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron

Actually, I was referring more to Vision's "I AM," and the fact that he was "God-like" enough to pick up Mjolnir. It was fairly clear to me that Ultron was definitely the "fallen Angel," Devil-like character, whereas Vision was the "Not of man" (as in, the st...

Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron

Personally, I thought the blasphemy was a lot less ignorable than in any other Marvel movie so far... Umm... I was actually more pleased with the way the language -- and the blasphemy, in particular -- was handled in this movie than in any other so far. The fact that the language gag lasted the who...

Re: Dawn of Justice

Wait, what? I had heard nothing about Wonder Woman being introduced already... I agree, that's way too much... That's why The Amazing Spiderman 2 failed, in my opinion.
