Re: Favourite poems

I never really liked poetry till I read the Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. I am still not a big fan of poetry (I prefer fiction), but college helped me appreciate it more than I used to. Some I discovered: The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats: Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cann...

Re: What books are you reading?

Now reading the Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald . I was just trying to remember the title of that book. I liked it very much. The only other Fitzgerald book I've read is The Great Gatsby but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would after reading the Beautiful and the Damned. Ri...

Re: What Not to Read

"A Good Man Is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor (This one was by far the worst.) I definitely agree!! This story was so messed up in so many ways... When I read this in English Lit 101 in college, I was like, why would anyone want to read this. It was rather horrifying. I never wanted t...

Re: Random Things That Remind You Of AIO

Today I was at church and a little boy was going up the ramp that led to the upper doors. His mom wanted him to go with her to the bottom floor and she said, "Get back here, Robert Mitchell!"

Re: Things you have learned from Odyssey

Great list Mrs Jason Whittaker! I also first learned some of my Shakespeare from Odyssey: "As Marcellus says in Act one Scene four of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, 'Something is rotten in the state of Denmark'." - Eugene in "Final Conflict" (I think) "O, I die, Horatio! The ...

Re: The Bible miniseries

Do you know what the unstable theology was? You can't help but lose something in translation when condensing something that big into a different medium. It is mainly for entertainment, but if it inspires people to read the Bible, all the better. As long as ppl look at the Bible as final authority, a...

Things you have learned from Odyssey

I don't mean life lessons (though those are good of course :) but random facts etc that you didn't know before. I grew up with AIO so I spent a lot of hours listening to it, and so it obviously affected me, as it has probably affected many of you. ;) For me, personally, things like this: Words Eugen...

Re: Lotr's favorite qoutes

there are a lot, but here's a conversation: (from a flashback at the end, modified from it's original scene) "I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened" -Frodo "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All you have to deci...

In the book (if I remember right) it WAS real. I'd rather believe that anyway.

Re: Les Miserables (2012)

Good luck. But I'm curious, do you have any comment on the book itself? Thanks. The book? Well, when I was 17, I started reading my aunt's copy of it when I was at her house in New York because she said it was really good. I struggled through the first chapter, but still thought it was worth borrow...

Re: Les Miserables (2012)

I just saw this film today with my mom and sister! It was so good. I cried at so many parts of it. Anne Hathaway was my favorite--she should get Best Supporting Actress in my book! I'd never seen a version of the musical, though I've read the book and heard the Radio Theatre version. I want to see t...

This topic is gross. Honestly swooning over a radio character. tsk tsk. People have crushes on TV and movie characters, even video game characters. Why not radio characters too? ;) BTW, happy anniversary on joining TOO. -- 27 Dec 2012 07:26 pm -- Help! Writing my fanfiction is making me fall in lov...

Re: STAR TREK Into Darkness

LOL. But why do they want to dominate the universe in the first place? Is it merely its own motivation, a form of psychosis? I suppose it varies from case to case and there can be a combination of factors. By definition, a villain doesn't need to be complex...but the more complex he is, the more int...

Re: STAR TREK Into Darkness

I mean, someone who wasn't ALSO in the movies. We already have revenge overkill without using the same character. Oh well. Revenge is good motivation, I suppose....though there must be other motivations for villains. Makes things intense. Just a little weird that it's the motivation the second time ...
