Re: Are Atheists /Agnostics /Etc Alike?

Thanks for the reply! The reason I asked the ritual question is that it really taps into a lot of human psychology that we all experience, and it isn't necessarily religious. I'd say we all have *some* form of rituals we perform, which give us some structure and perhaps give us a feeling of securit...

Re: Are Atheists /Agnostics /Etc Alike?

Just based on some of the previous comments, would you tend to conclude that faith-based religious beliefs tend to hamper individual perception or understanding of reality? certain faith based religious beliefs *alter* perceptions and understandings of reality. Such as in this fascinating study: ht...

Re: Are Atheists /Agnostics /Etc Alike?

Did any of you consider or explore other religions besides Christianity? Once I was done with Christianity I was DONE with organized religion, completely. Disorganized religion... now that's *quite* a different fish. But really, I've read a LOT about the religions of the world that practitioners ta...

Re: Are Atheists /Agnostics /Etc Alike?

Actually I feel like I manage grieving better now that I'm an atheist than when I was a Christian... but that could be just time and experience and perspective rather than beliefs per se, I don't know.

um, actually, sometimes the singing. The hymns that are very familiar, the group where everyone's doing the same thing. Plus the church I went to most had a pretty great organ. Also, I guess, I was a christian through my childhood, so sometimes I'll be nostalgic for the group outings and stuff I'd d...

<r>oh goodness. Maybe you are right. I was googling for a story I found earlier about the UN's recent report on global food supplies (found here: <URL url="http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-development/2012/oct/14/un-global-food-crisis-warning"><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.guardian.co.uk/global-develo...

Re: Ask an alcohol-drinking, girl-kissing, pot-smoking Atheist!

We've not even survived as our modern species even one million years! Our entire genus is less than ten million years old! We cannot be considered the dominate species, not even genus, especially as we are very possibly going to cause another mass extinction that very well may take us out with thou...

Jesus Princess, I copied your question over to the other thread because I wanted to answer it, too, and this is xiao's. If you're interested in what I said, head on over there :) Well. We get to call ourselves "dominant" because we're the ones interested in ranking species.... I don't *qui...

Re: Ask an alcohol-drinking, girl-kissing, pot-smoking Atheist!

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. This is a highly uncomfortable thought for many people, as humans tend to be pretty big-headed about their grand importance in the scheme of the universe, especially religious people, who have prided themselves as the grand masterpiece creation of a perfect, de...

I also don't really know what you mean by "complex" you mean, like, human? Because bacteria are pretty complex too. In a billion years maybe there will just be bacteria who knows. HOWEVER, acceptance of evolution is something we share with a WHOLE LOT of Christians and other religious beli...

MAYBE I edited it correctly? -- 05 Nov 2012 10:00 pm -- From other thread: Do you think that humans are inherently good, or inherently evil? Is it possible for everyone to live in peace and harmony with one another? I don't think humans are either inherently good OR inherently evil. Also. That's ass...

Re: The Boring Atheist Topic.

Why are you atheists so competitive? Is it because you have no hope or happiness in your life? Yes, this is exactly why! \:D/ Hence, we must hold parties where we compete with each other seeing who is the LEAST hopeful and LEAST happy because that person is obviously being the BEST atheist. It's a ...
