#53 The Green Ring Conspiracy

Whit's wiping down the counter, Connie's mopping the floor, and the kids are sipping on their milkshakes. If you want to talk about Adventures in Odyssey the radio drama, this is the spot to do just that!

#53 The Green Ring Conspiracy

Post by Jacob Isom »

So, Audio Theatre Central (http://www.audiotheatrecentral.com) featured an interview with Nathan Hoobler who revealed the titles for Album 53. Take a look here: http://www.odysseyscoop.com/episodes/Episodes_2011.htm. Share your thoughts.

Yep, according to Nathan that's the way it is. I would have preferred something more creative and original. After all, the episode title needs to pull the listener in... make them curious. Twelve titles like that won't look good on the back of the product.

I like the idea of it not just being a bunch of episodes with a continuing storyline but, one actual 12 parter. It makes it seem so much more intense. (especially since it will only be the third episode to have more than 3 parts) But, that being said, my concern is that they will all blend together. (in our minds) Just as far as fan discussion and stuff, Darien's Rise seemed to do that. When it's all one episode, the parts are pretty much indistinguishable. For example, you can't really have a favorite episode from an album like that, because you won't be able to remember if that scene you really liked with all the funny lines was in part 8 or 9. And, really 'The Green Ring Conspiracy 1-12' will be everyone's favorite episode. ;) It's very rare that someone will have differing opinions of different parts of a multi-parter. (some people don't even revue them separately) So, while it's kind of cool, with so much content, I would prefer more clearly defined episodes.

I HATE THIS!! I usually don't get this way but this is a bad idea. All regular canon AIO eps should have a different title. That's what makes it so interesting. Darien's Rise is an exception. I sure hope they change this befor eit comes out!!

Yeah, the thing I liked about both the Novacom Saga and the Blackgaard Saga was that there were always episodes that I could pick out as being my favorite, even though, as a whole, all the episodes were good. But it just made sense to have different titles since those sagas jumped throughout time, focused on different people, changed themes, and sometimes could be standalone episodes. What the news about the "Green Ring Conspiracy" titles tells me is that the adventure will likely take place during a short period of time, focus on only a handful of people, have probably just one theme at the end of the series, and absolutely none will be very good standalone episodes...and the episodes themselves will probably shorter.

For reviewing, this will be a nightmare. And I think the hype will be different from the Novacom Saga. Most fans were discussing and debating, and coming up with their own theories about the plot. This was before the album was released before the season. Here, most will just order the entire package, listen to it all in one sitting, and then wait until next September for new episodes. I doubt many will bother to check back on the forums in order to talk about it progressively, or review, if they've heard the whole episode already. Just my guess though.

To comment on the podcast as a whole, I think Nathan actually gave a very good interview. Though I'm always hungry to find out about upcoming episodes, I did appreciate his comments about what the team had learned from producing "Take it From the Top".

In related news, the title of Vol. 54 was announced to be "Adventures in Odyssey: Volume 54."

The two posts above are epic WIN. ;)

I'm indifferent about the decision to make the titles I, I, II...XII. On one hand, there's no originality to that. If Novacom were I, II...XXsomething, it wouldn't have nearly been as good. (Exit is really the only Novacom episode title I care about, though..) On the other hand, a TWELVE-parter sounds awesome! It's 50/50 for me.
