The lyrics in my signature are from the Boondocks theme song, some of my favorite lyrics ever.

I also am pretty fond of the first verse of Blowin' In The Wind by Bob Dylan
How many roads most a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

I don't like some of the song's music, but seeing this thread immediately made me think of Letters From War:
  • And though he was captured
    A man set me free
And that man was your son

It was the last of the letters from war

    You are good
    And you're brave
what a father that you'll be someday
Reading that sends shivers down my spine. Absolutely incredible.

I'm not one for music lyrics, but here's my favorites:
Teach me to number my days, and count every moment, before it slips away.
-Blink, Revive
Now the last time we spoke,
You said you were hurting,
And I felt your pain in my heart,
Now I wanna tell you,
That I'll keep on praying,
'Cause love will find you where you are.

-The Words I would Say, Sidewalk Prophets

this will be my Reese Roper post, he has some amazing stuff
"hope unstoppable
bring the morning sun
wake up oh sleeper the daylight has come"
"Deepest oceans of despair
this vast and somber charcoal line of space
have you given up yet?
What hope lingers in the crevices and corners of your soul?
I know you, you haven't given up
you are brave in this darkness, Saint Saturn
sometimes the bravest thing of all is to hope"
"She is strong and silent
she is blunt and shrewd
she thinks that nobody loves her
if she only knew
how much we all have missed her
we are brave for you, my little sister"
"When I was small the furthest I could reach was not so I
and I, thought the world was so much smaller feeling I could fly
through distant deeps and skies
behind infinity
below the face of heaven
he stoops to create me
Dear father, I need you
your strength my heart to mend
I want to fly higher
every new day again"
"A song sung for Underdogs
for all the laughed at
a flag flying for losers
somewhere in the heavens
the God of everlasting comfort
believed in me,
Loved me, when I was faithless
he still died for me"
Image
I believe that love is greater
Never ceasing, always hoping
Always just beneath the Dawn

Here are a few of my many favorite song lyrics. :)
You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift

You're on the phone with your girlfriend, She's upset
She's goin' off about somethin' that you said
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do

I'm in my room, it's a typical Tuesday night
I'm listenin' to the kinda music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do

But she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreamin' bout the day when you wake up and find
That what you're lookin' for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me
You belong with me

You're walkin' the streets with you an' your worn out jeans
I can't help thinkin' this is how it ought to be
Laughin' on a park bench thinkin' to myself
Hey isn't this easy?

And you've got a smile that can light up this whole town
I haven't seen it in a while, since she brought you down
You say you're fine I know you better than that
Hey, whatcha doing with a girl like that?

'Cause she wears high heels, I wear sneakers
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreamin' bout the day when you wake up and find
That what you're lookin' for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me
You Belong with me

Oh I remember you were drivin' to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry
I know your favorite songs and you tell me 'bout your dreams
Think I know where you belong. Think I know it's with me.

Can't you see that I'm the one who understand you?
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Standing by here waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know, baby
You belong with me
You belong with me

Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me
You belong with me
Love Story by Taylor Swift

We were both young when I first saw you.
I close my eyes, and the flashback starts,
I'm standing there,
On the balcony in summer air.

I see the lights, see the party, the ballgowns.
See you make your way through the crowd,
And say, "Hello",
Little did I know,

That you were Romeo,
You were throwing pebbles,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
And I was crying on the staircase,
Begging you, "Please don't go".

And I said,
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting, all that's left to do is run.
You be the prince, and I'll be the princess,
It's a love story, baby, just say, 'yes'."

So I sneak out to the garden to see you,
We keep quiet, 'cause we're dead if he knew,
So close your eyes,
Escape this town for a little while.

'Cause you were Romeo,
I was a scarlet letter,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
But you were everything to me,
Begging you, "Please don't go".

And I said,
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting, all that's left to do is run.
You be the prince, and I'll be the princess,
It's a love story, baby, just say, 'yes'."

"Romeo, save me, they're trying to tell me how to feel.
This love is difficult, but it's real.
Don't be afraid, we'll make it of this mess,
It's a love story, baby, just say, 'yes'."

Well, I got tired of waiting,
Wondering if you were ever coming around.
My faith in you was fading,
When I met you on the outskirts of town.

And I said,
"Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting for you, but you never come.
Is this in my head,
I don't know what to think,"

You knelt to the ground,
And pulled out a ring and said,
"Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone.
I love you, and that's all I really know.
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress,
It's a love story, baby just say yes."

We were both young when I first saw you...
Don't Forget To Remember Me by Carrie Underwood

18 years had come and gone
For momma they flew by
But for me they drug on and on
We were loading up that Chevy
Both tryin' not to cry
Momma kept on talking
Putting off good-bye
Then she took my hand and said
"Baby don't forget:

Before you hit the highway
You better stop for gas
And there's a 50 in the ashtray
In case you run short on cash
Here's a map and here's a Bible
If you ever lose your way

Just one more thing before you leave
Don't forget to remember me"

This downtown apartment sure makes me miss home
and those bills there on the counter
Keep telling me I'm on my own
And just like every Sunday I called momma up last night
And even when it's not, I tell her everything's all right
Before we hung up I said
"Hey momma, don't forget:

to tell my baby sister I'll see her in the fall
And tell me-maw that I miss her
Yeah, I should give her a call
And make sure you tell Daddy that I'm still his little girl
Yeah I still feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be
Don't forget to remember me"

Tonight I find myself kneeling by the bed to pray
I haven't done this in a while
So I don't know what to say but
Lord, I feel so small sometimes in this big ol' place
Yeah, I know theres more important things, but
Don't forget to remember me

Don't forget to remember me

All through the ages,
We've try to share this world together.
Turning the pages,
Pretending we'll live here forever
But we'll have to face,
Our maker someday,
And reap what we've sown all the way...

Why do we go dancing in circles,
When we know it never ends?
We come so close,
To loving each other and then...
We go dancing in circles again.

Joy to the World,
Barney's dead,
We barbecued his head,
Don't worry about his body,
We flushed it down the potty,
And round and round it goes,
And round and round and round it goes.
A silly song that I sing around Christmas time

Just about all of "Mad World" has deep emotional resonance with me...
"There tears are filling up their glasses, no expression. No expression."

"and I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad. The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had."

"Children waiting for the day they feel good, Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday."

"Went to School and I was very nervous, no one knew me. No one knew me."
...honestly it just hit me that if there were a way to make AMV's out of audio this song would fit Curt Stephens (if memory serves) VERY well... eh, than again I'm somewhat morbid and obsessed with AMV making.

Another gem is Voltaire's "Feathery Wings", especially the chorus...
"I'm so sick and tired of the taste of tears the sting of pain the smell of fear the sounds of crying. Now, as you're standing at the edge of your life, what do you remember? Was it all you wanted? I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings. I wish I could protect you here. Smile, as you're standing at the edge of your life, your troubles are over, mine are just beginning. I'm trying to earn a set of feathery wings to take me away from here."
Yeah...those are my top faves. ...at the moment. This is subject to change without warning.

There are some diverse music tastes here on the ToO! :D As you post your favourite song lines, I'm asking that you stick to the thread title and post song lines, not the entire song. Pick your favourite line or verse etc. but due to our desire here on the ToO to be sensitive to copyright issues, please refrain from posting the entire song, even if you do give credit to the artist who wrote/recorded it. :) Thanks for your future co-operation in this area! :D

To list my favourites would be a real challenge - I would recommend investing in the entire Michael W. Smith collection for a large portion of my favourites! ;)
