All Hail Our New President!

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

I really can't imagine how someone could, this early on--well, if you're going by his campaign promises alone I could imagine it.
But if you look at his past voting track record, a large amount of the time he didn't actually vote in any meaningful way; he was recorded as present, but without opinion. So pretty much the only way you can judge what he plans to do is through campaign promises, and those aren't exactly the most reliable things in the world.
Yes-- issue positions, campaign promises, and suchlike, which I took to be some indication of what he does intend to do. I don't really foresee my opinion about him changing, but I suppose one will have to wait and see.

I hope you were speaking loftily when you said that the presidential campaign is utter nonsense. The United States was founded for a representative government. The choice for whom to vote is important. That ability to cast your vote is what makes the United States stand out from all the countries in history.
Ah, you misunderstand me.

The election is of high importance. That's what you were describing there.

The many months of campaigning before that is what's generally filled with nonsense. Sensationalistic campaign ads, horrible media coverage (from conservatives and liberals alike), endless rhetoric, candidate admiration that borders on worship on both sides, mud-slinging, those silly glorified pep rallies we like to call national conventions, the stress, the blowing absolutely everything and everybody out of proportion, etc, etc, etc.

The only decent part of the campaign is the debates, as it is the closest any candidate actually comes to telling you what they are thinking. And even that falls short.

The election is important, and usually a very fun night for me. The campaigns are incredibly asinine, and I'm glad we've put this round behind us.

I apparently left some of my original content out. I meant to say that I hope you think the campaigning is nonsense. The voting is not- the campaigning is. I apologize for deleting it.

Yayyyyyy! Way to go American people! You've elected a muslim hugging, gay marriage loving, baby killing, nearly socialist man with zero experience and an incompetent man as his partner to run your nation! And what, may I ask, was the reason you elected him? Oh, that's right- because he's an African American man! What a great reason to elect someone into office- everyone knows that the color of your skin makes you or breaks you and qualifies you to run a nation.
I can't believe that he got elected. :blah:

I thought for sure that McCain was going to win. America is really going to be in trouble now with Obama as president.

My eyes actually got watery while watching that. For the Union! \:D/

Obama is the best ever! He's going to pay my mortgage and my gas and everything! \:D/ That'll certainly help the economy! \:D/
So you lost your trust,
And you never should have.
No, you never should have.
But don't break your back
If you ever see this,
But don't answer that.
In a bullet proof vest
With the windows all closed,
I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon.

Remember, Top may not always mean exactly what he says. Pseudonym is Canadian? I know he is attempting to emulate Top's randomness.

If I were you, JED, I wouldn't worry about Top and Pseudonym so much.

I have to agree with Iron and Light. I really am disapointed in America but what can we expect when people are raised beliving that the the governent should have full control? - and if Obama isn't gay loving why is he for gay marriage?
I'm praying that God will protect us believers. America is going down, and to be compeletly honest, I believe Obama is only going to help it go down faster.
But, no, I don't want to move to Canada. America is still better right now.

No the government does not have absolute control through Obama. Supporting gay marriage is called being tolerant. not "gay loving".

tolerant? Gay marriage is wrong. Simple fact. simple truth. Supporting it is saying that you believe it is right, which is saying that what God said about gay marriage doesn't matter anymore. The house and senate are pretty much Democratic and the president is Demorcrat and so they can pretty much pass any law that they want.
Just watch some of the first things that will happen. Legalizing gay marriage, making it so people can't stop abortions, stopping the tax cut so taxes go back up to the high place they were before Bush became president.

The president can not legalize gay marriage. The States do states are in charge of defining marriage ect ect therefore the President won't play a large role in gay marriage.

I don't believe in gay marriage either but it is not up to me to determine whether or not it is legal. Obama has the same view it is not up to him to determine whether it is right or wrong.

He will stop the tax cut for the rich and give a tax cut to the middle class. Totally different he is not going to go uber taxes on everyone.

Just read my economoc notes Clinton's economic polcies helped America ALOT.

And TOP it is the concept of economics that Clinton used the keynesian theory instead of supply economics that Reagon and others used that's my point.

Here Are the Top 10 Predictions
(No Matter Who Wins the Election)

1. The Bible will still have all the answers.
2. Prayer will still work.
3. The Holy Spirit will still move.
4. God will still inhabit the praises of His people.
5. There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6. There will still be singing of praise to God.
7. God will still ... Read Morepour out blessings upon His people.
8. There will still be room at the Cross.
9. Jesus will still love you.
10. Jesus will still save the lost when they come to Him.

. . . And God approves this message!
That's good enough for me.

So if gay marriage is made legal you won't mind a bit? Gay marriage is supposed to be illagel. it's wrong. God said not to have gay marriage. Sometimes I wish for the days back when America was a Christian nation. God is vanishing out of America. America is becoming like Israel had once been and eventually God will leave America to its own destructions.

and Clinton was a horrible president. He gave secrets away! do you remember his terms?

I was talking about Clinton in the terms of Economics not everything else.

what exact secrets did he give away?

I born in the middle of his term and I was six when he left office. I am fairly confident that I do not remember anything from his terms.
