Another pronounciation question

how do you say caramel?

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

How do you pronounce the word "caramel"?

Mandy Straussberg wrote:I tend to say it more like car-mole, but not quite. Maybe more like car-muhl. I don't know exactly.

I once heard a somewhat reliable source say that Car-mel is the harder candy type, and care-a-mel is the liquid (like butterscotch on ice cream, etc.).

But I don't care. It's all car-mole/muhl to me anyway.

Mandy

I have heard this too.

I say both by the way. It just depends. I think I tend too use Care a mel more if it is really really good carmel. If it is inexpensive or just bad then i say carmel. Actually I'm just kinda making this up as I go along. I really have no reason for why I say both. I just do.

Interesting! I guess I was kind of expecting it to be this way, but I was expecting more people to say it like care-a-mel. Hmmm... Anyway, I always wondered about this, especially after listening to "Subject Yourself", when Jack said it like "care-a-mel".

So, I have another question, I just thought of it today. When you say apricot, do you say the "a" like in apple or like in ape?

Ape!
