Mac vs. PC

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Do you like the Mac or the PC?

Vista is ok, BUT it has problems ;).

Anything released by Microsoft, is an unfinished product :p.

Not to mention, as a new OS from MS, it will be targeted by an insane amount of viruses.

On the other hand since higher end businesses are leaning on macs recently they will be targeted as well. Macs are not invincible ;). I have seen them hacked before. But they are more secure, do to the fact that they are a branch of the UNIX base, its inner workings, are not only faster, but crash less ;).

BUT Linux on the OTHER hand, is still prevailing for me. It is one of the least targeted computers, it is faster, the base of the operating system NEVER crashes (programs might, but never the root) Its entirely customizable, it looks WAY better than Macs and Windows, and not to mention, it is faster than both Macs and Windows.

I have over a good 100 programs on my linux box, and around 15 on my windows box, and the linux box performs with no lags, no problems, and no slowness. And yet my Windows box is slow as possible ;).

It thinks it's smarter than you are. The built in security is ridiculous, asking you for approval every five seconds. The implementation of the TCPIP stack is AWFUL. It's a system resource hog. The GUI is unnecessarily complex, and tries to hide things from you. It's loaded down with DRM and HDCP garbage that I refuse on principle to allow on my systems unless absolutely necessary. Did I mention that it's slow?

Well, if you have a computer that will properly run it, it is not slow in the least. And I think the security thing isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is.
So you lost your trust,
And you never should have.
No, you never should have.
But don't break your back
If you ever see this,
But don't answer that.

I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon.

Well, lets see, go turn off ALL of Vista's supposedly graphically superior features ;). Revert back to the win95 style, make sure your on High performance mode, not power saver mode or something.

I remember I started to play quake 4 once, and it lagged like CRAZY! I did everything in my power, updated the graphics card, Turned off EVERY possible feature, then I finally realized, that it was in power saver mode >_>.

That's exactly the problem. The system requirements are ridiculous. It's an operating system, not Crysis. It shouldn't need that much power to run decently.

And the security thing is a lot worse than you think if you ever do much admin level work. I went through over 15 security prompts just to set up a network share properly, change two settings, and add a printer.

I'm not quite sure what's wrong with everyone. I run recent games on ultra high with no problem.

After a google search for "Turning windows vista features off" I came upon this in about 2 seconds. ;)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutoria ... al134.html

And lastly, if you want to turn the graphic features off, right click your Computer, click properties, select advanced system settings, hit the advanced tab, under performance click settings, and choose adjust for best performance.

And hopefully, you know at least how to change your theme back the early windows theme ;).

Well then that could quite possibly be why your not getting those high end games rippin up ;). Be the administrator. Feel the Administrator.

My laptop not only wakes me up in the morning, but it picks out colour-coordinated outfits for me, makes breakfast and calls a ride to school for me. I hear that the next version of OSX will be able to read my law books for me, but we'll see. After all, I have to leave SOME activities for myself.

I'm not so sure what all this "Vista" business is about. ;)
