the Rathbones

gotta love em

Whit's wiping down the counter, Connie's mopping the floor, and the kids are sipping on their milkshakes. If you want to talk about Adventures in Odyssey the radio drama, this is the spot to do just that!

the Rathbones

Post by suzanne291 »

So many awesome episodes have Bart blundering around, Rodney on an escapade with the Bones, or Doris, um, being herself.

Favorites = The Winning Edge, The Scales of Justice, Family Values, Truth, Trivia, and Trina, Aloha, Oy!, A Victim of Circumstance, The One About Trust, Sunday Morning Scramble, No Bones About It, Snow Day, The Good, the Bad, and Butch

Post your favorite Rathbone moments!

One of my favorite Bart lines goes something like this: Get one free balloon! With every $20 purchase.

I loved the part in "The Other Woman" when Doris and Rodney were squabbling because Rodney left his clothes all over the bathroom floor. I also loved it when Rodney and Doris were following Tom while driving. Rodney told Doris to duck, and she did, forgetting about driving. Rodney: "What are you doing? You're supposed to drive?" Doris: "You told me to duck so I ducked! Would you make up your mind already?"

The way Bart pronounces his name. Bart "Rath-bun." I don't know why that's funny, but it is.

haaa yes that is hilarious!! especially at the end of Family Values - Bart says something like, "We won! We're Rath-buns! Who cares HOW we won, as long as we're the winners?!"

And the ongoing "don't call me pop" joke. Classic.

I also like Bart's line that goes something like this: You can see it on the Radio, you can hear it on the T 'n V!

I have always enjoyed hearing Bart's "guarantee" in "My Fair Bernard", and the four "family bonding" scenes in "Family Values" (particularly Bart and Doris's talk).

Doris Rathbone is a riot! She makes me crack-up with her stupidity. My favorite line she's spoken is when she complains to Bart about staying at the fancy restaurant in My Favorite Things,

" Bart, I shaved my legs, all the way up to my knees!"

You guys all have some really good stories about the Rathbones. My favorite instance is in "Family Values" where the Rathbones are all sitting down to dinner.
"Pardon me my dear but do we have any grey poupon?"

"What?"

"Mustard"
Poor Rodney is so un-sophisticated that he tucks the table cloth into his belt instead of the napkin. Some times I think about that when I'm at the dinner table. My sister and I have both heard that episode and while we can't quote it precisely we can get the basic jist of it
"It's a napkin you use it to wipe the food off of your face"

"But why can't I use my sleeve"

"Because you get it dirty"

"Well so does the napkin"

"Yeah but it's washable"

"But so is my sleeve"

"Just tuck the napkin in your belt"
And I might as well point out my sister doesn't listen to Odyssey the way I do and I find it amazing that we can have that type of a conversation.

I just listened to "Aloha, Oy!" yesterday. They play off the Barclays so well! "Family Values" and "Aloha, Oy!" are the best Rathbone episodes ever made, no question.

Bart is funny in 60's Something:
"You know Whitaker, the 60s, when everybody tuned in and dropped out and listened to Sargent Packer's Lonely Hats Club Band."
