Where was Jack?
I was thinking about this the other day: have we ever heard where Jack was during World War II? I know that most of the stories about Whit were produce before Jack was even introduced to the show, but they were friends in college (during which the war took place, I believe) as we heard in shows like The Triangle and Prequels of Love. I wonder if anyone has caught something that I missed, or has it not been addressed on the show?

I thought Whit went to college after the war? I totally forget, haven't listened to those episodes recently.
Wasn't Whit going to college when he met his wife? I think that was after the war, but I'm probably wrong since I haven't listened to those episodes for a while either.

I remember that Whit told Reginald Duffield that he was a student before he became a signalman.

I would assume that Whit went to college after the war, but I don't think it was ever clarified. However, even if Jack didn't know Whit yet, I would assume he still fought in WWII. Unless he was a Conscientious Objector...
Perhaps Focus didn't want to bring the subject up since they had already done Whit's and Uncle Joe's war history. Perhaps they just ran out of ideas.

Whit and Jack have known each other since they were boys (Blackbeard's Treasure etc.)

I could see him being the type that would go live in Switzerland or something. Or maybe he joined the Nazis!
After the war he and Whit decided they just wouldn't speak of it again. >_>

Tom Riley could have gotten off because he worked on a farm.

I didnt know people could get of military service because they had a farm. I know the Amish do not fight because its against their beliefs.Astronomer wrote:Tom Riley could have gotten off because he worked on a farm.

The Farmers helped provide food for those overseas I think, which is how Tom could have gotten off the hook because he was a farmer and he worked with the US Government.orangie wrote:I didnt know people could get of military service because they had a farm. Whit went to Duke before the War for a few years and was close to graduating. Then he fought in the war. Then he went to USC and finished school. (He was like Dr. Dobson here.) And from the Triangle, we know Whit was at USC while Jack was at UCLA. So they were at college together. BUT Whit had taken a few years off to fight in the war. So Why was Jack also still in college at the same time (unless it was graduate school ?) So maybe Jack also fought since they were both in college at the same time despite Whit in the war. (how long was he in the war for ?)

I could be wrong and it could've been different back then, but I am thinking if you are drafted you are in for (at least) 3 years, if you enlist its for at least 4 years?
....not that you CAN'T get out sooner but thats the usual term and Whit seems the type that would stick with it. >_>
