Re: What is the last movie you saw?
Following, Christopher Nolan's debut film. It was very reminiscent of fifties movies, and seemed pretty good for a movie with a budget of six thousand dollars. Also, I saw about half of Jupiter Ascending, but my friends all hated it so we left the theater in the middle. I thought it was interesting,...

Re: Into the Woods
I saw this last week and was quite surprised. I'm not generally too into musicals, but this kind of intrigued me. I wasn't aware it was a musical by Stephen Sondheim, so I was expecting more Menken-esque catchy pop tunes (which I'm pretty sick of). Although the songs weren't breathtaking, they were ...

Re: What books are you reading?
Just finished The Optimist's Daughter by Eudora Welty. It was a bit confusing. I'm definitely going to reread it sometime.

Doesn't quite pertain but this conversation made me think of it. It's a great song.

Re: The LEGO Movie
It was fantastic. Probably my favorite animated movie in quite a while. And I never was much of a LEGO-user. I'll have to see it again though. I kind of lol'd at "President Business." I guess they just said, "Well, anti-capitalism is in now, so let's make the bad guy have 'business' i...

Re: Dialect Quiz
I got three cities in Southern California, which is where both my parents are from. Colorado, where I live now, doesn't seem to have much of a unique dialect. I selected the "I don't have a term for that" option quite a bit.

Abide in Christ by Andrew Murray. I've always avoided this type of book for some reason; that was a mistake.

Re: What is the purpose of art?
I'm not a huge fan of those tests. I think most people probably come out between 40-60 or so. So if art is not intended to make you understand something, is it intended to make you feel something? Just emotions? Or perhaps emotions about a certain subject that can further your understanding of that ...

Maybe I'm the only one, but I think I would prefer to read subtitles. Somehow movies like these seem more effective that way.

Would you say art has to teach you something (using "teach" loosely of course)? And if it doesn't then what good is it?

Re: What is the purpose of art?
Honestly, I'm pretty sure any sexual connotations there are in Neutral Milk Hotel's music are intentional (and there are many). So, while there is most definitely a deeper meaning, I don't think you can fault anyone for taking the most obvious interpretation - especially considering Mangum's lyrics ...

I have heard of them, haven't listened to too much of them because they are an exact replica of Mumford & Sons. I mean, even the vocalist tries to sound exactly like Marcus Mumford. lol. And I'm not really a big Mumford fan anymore. I've heard some songs by them that are pretty good though. If t...

Re: Playlists
low-key indie sounds Interesting way of describing them. I would call them 'upbeat alternative sounds.' lol. I don't really use playlists. I usually just shuffle a genre or listen to full albums. Playlists are usually arranged by genre anyways, so here are some of the ones I listen to most. When I ...

Re: What is the last movie you saw?
I saw a bunch of stuff on long plane rides... The one that I really liked was The Place Beyond the Pines. It was pretty great.
I also saw The Call, which was ok I guess, and part of Skyfall, which I found pretty boring.
